Why We Use the Latest Technology
Embracing advanced technology enables Dr. Gupta and our team to diagnose conditions with unparalleled precision, plan treatments with exacting detail, and execute procedures that minimize invasiveness while maximizing effectiveness. This approach not only enhances the patient's experience but also significantly improves treatment outcomes.
Digital X-Rays
X-rays have been used in medicine and dentistry for well over 100 years. However, dentists did not begin to use x-rays on a routine basis until the 1950s. This was also right around the time that professional dentistry shifted from treating oral health problems to preventing them.
In the past, dentists only had traditional film x-rays at their disposal. While traditional x-rays are effective, the advent of digital x-rays has revolutionized the way we prevent and diagnose potential problems. The benefits of digital x-rays include:
Better Quality: Digital technology allows for improved image capture and more detailed x-rays. Film x-rays can produce flawed, skewed, or blurry images.
Enlargement Capabilities: A digital x-ray can be enlarged or manipulated, which help us diagnose smaller instances of tooth decay, fractures, and other abnormalities that may not be visible to the naked eye.
Improved Safety: While traditional x-rays were relatively safe, digital technology emits even less radiation, making them ideal for patients in need of frequent treatment.
Instantaneous: Digital x-ray images are produced almost instantly. Unlike film slides, this allows us to retake an x-ray as soon as possible.
Sharing and Storage: Because digital x-rays are stored on a computer drive, they can be easily shared with other dentists if necessary.
Intraoral Camera
There are a number of reasons to use an intraoral camera. Much like digital x-rays, an intraoral camera can be an integral tool in the early diagnosis of a potential problem. We may also use this imaging technology to design, fabricate, and place a restoration, such as a dental crown or bridge.
The camera is usually found at the end of wand-like tool, allowing us to access hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. During the procedure, we can use the intraoral camera to take a video, a single picture, or hundreds of pictures (which our software combines to produce a 3-D image).
3D Imaging (Cone Beam CT Scanning)
3D Imaging, specifically Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), revolutionizes how we visualize dental structures, allowing for precise treatment planning and execution. Unlike traditional x-rays, CBCT provides three-dimensional, high-resolution images of the teeth, jawbone, and soft tissues in a single scan.
The benefits of 3D Imaging include:
Enhanced accuracy: 3D imaging helps improve diagnosis, precise implant placement, and the ability to assess bone quality and quantity for grafting procedures.
Patient Impact: Advanced imaging has led to more minimally invasive procedures, reduced treatment times, and improved outcomes.
Ultrasonic Scalers
Routine cleanings are an important part of maintaining excellent oral health, even with a strong daily hygiene regimen. During your cleaning, our dental hygienist will use an ultrasonic scaler to remove any plaque or calcified plaque (tartar) from above and below the gumline.
The ultrasonic scaler produces microscopic bubbles that implode on the surfaces of the enamel. As they implode, they break up plaque and tartar deposits, while bursting the cell walls of any bacteria present.
Unlike conventional metal hand scalers, the ultrasonic device also eliminates the risk of damaging the enamel. In other words, ultrasonic cleanings are safer and more effective than traditional methods.
